Gin Daisy

The GIN DAISY has two versions — an old-school and new-school. I favor the old-school recipe which sweetens lemon juice with orange liqueur. It maintains the classic lemony “Sour.” It’s refreshing, and is a great precursor to dinner. This simple mix is light, balanced and very easy going down.

Requirements: gin, orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec), lemon juice, seltzer, lime (or lemon) wheel for garnish

  • 1.5 oz. gin
  • 3/4 oz. orange liqueur
  • 3/4 oz. lemon juice
  • soda water (seltzer) topper (approx. 1 oz.)
  • 1 lime (or lemon) wheel for garnish

Add all ingredients except seltzer to ice-filled shaker. Shake to chill and strain into an ice-filled Collins glass. Top with seltzer and garnish with a lime (preferred) or lemon wheel.

Comments: The new-school version substitutes orange liqueur with grenadine as follows: 1.5 oz. gin, 1/4 oz. grenadine, 1/2 oz. lemon juice, 1/4 oz. simple syrup, soda water topper after the previous is shaken and poured into an ice-filled Collins glass. Garnish with an orange peel. If ordering the Gin Daisy at a bar or restaurant, specify which version you’re requesting.
