Blue Train

The BLUE TRAIN is a tasty and exotic-looking gin cocktail served martini-style. Its blue color is from the small amount of blue curacao added to a combination of gin, orange liqueur and lemon juice. It’s a quick and simple mix that follows down the tracks of other delicious orange liqueur martini-style refreshers like the Cosmo, Pomegranate Martini, Himalayan Mist and Chapel Hill Gold Rush.

Requirements: dry gin, orange liqueur (Triple Sec or Cointreau), blue curacao, lemon juice

• 1.5 oz. gin
• 3/4 oz. orange liqueur
• 3/4 oz. lemon juice
• 1/2 oz. blue curacao

Mix all ingredients into an ice-filled shaker. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Comments: This is a perfect home-bartending cocktail in that the liquor brands aren’t overly specific and aside from squeezing some lemon juice in advance, is an easy mix and pour. It’s a cousin to the Himalayan Mist using a very similar mix, but substitutes gin instead of vodka. The Blue Train is the more established of the two drinks.
