Curacao Rum Runner
One of the best ways to enjoy a good aged rum like the El Dorado 15-year is with a simple mix called the CURACAO RUM RUNNER. If you’ve got orange bitters, it’s just a two-ingredient cocktail with no citrus additions. Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao is the orange liqueur recommended and can be adjusted to one’s own preference of sweetness.
Requirements: Anejo rum (aged 10+ years preferred), dry curacao (Pierre Ferrand recommended), orange bitters (Regan’s recommended)
- 1.5 oz. anejo rum
- .75 oz. dry curacao
- 2 dashes orange bitters
Add ingredients to an ice-filled shaker. Shake to chill and strain over a large ice-cube.
Comments: Some published recipes prefer 1-ounce curacao to each 1.5-ounce rum. I thought it too sweet and reduced the curacao to .75 oz., maintaining an even 2:1 ratio of rum to curacao. The El Dorado-15 pictured is an outstanding full-bodied rum from the Caribbean that can be enjoyed by itself, but in this case is accented with one of the best dry orange liqueurs.
