About Me

I’m Keeton, your mixology source at Keet’s Cocktails. I’ve enjoyed mixing and serving cocktails to friends, family and groups for 20+ years. That in itself is weird in that my parents were non-drinkers and I started out not knowing the difference between a vodka martini and a Manhattan. But Manhattan, the borough, influenced me with its wonderful cocktail offerings and good bartenders, until somewhere along the line I began to make them myself. With a fresh approach, my cocktail-making has received accolades consistently and enthusiastically. Many have suggested that I create a website or blog with my recipes long before I thought of it. So, here it goes.

I believe that not actually being a bartender has allowed me some freedom to make delicious and distinctive drinks. They aren’t overly sweet, never medicinal-tasting, sometimes unorthodox in preparation, always icy cold. Balance is important, and I’m picky. Many books and online services provide varying recipes for drinks, and I do reference them. I also talk to bartenders and ask them how they make a particularly good drink. Often my versions are simpler, less sweet, or maybe contain an added something that gives it that smoothness that people like. But my recipes are always more practical to prepare at a home bar, containing liquors that are common among many drinks. For the most part, I don’t use any obscure or pricey liquors. Making good cocktails is great; spending unnecessary money to do so is not.

I test old & new drink recipes myself and on others who might be around. Before I post a recipe, I have to like it myself, or envision others liking it even if I don’t. Much has gone down the drain in an effort to weed out bad combinations. The bad ones usually are evident immediately.

I hope this site is helpful and fun. It would be great to see more people serving up their own cocktails at homes and events and not opting for automatic drink-mixers created for the home or for the cocktail delivery services. I’d love to remedy that. Let me hear your own suggestions, reactions and observations as well.

On a larger scale, I enjoy histories of the spirits industry. World economies and laws have been driven by the liquor industry. Marriage proposals, business deals, political negotiations, problem-solving, sports wins, creative ideas and stories have passed through the generations over a glass of it. And they’re our stories. Let’s face it: Like music, liquor is a common language across countries and cultures. So here’s to us as we touch down amidst our busy lives to enjoy our favorite cocktails together. Safely.
