Butterbeer from Harry Potter

HARRY POTTER BUTTERBEER is a good cold-weather, Christmassy dessert drink. It may or may not have been based on Buttered Beer, which was a real drink from The Good Huswifes Handmaide for the Kitchin published in London in 1588 A.D. The early version was made from beer, sugar, eggs, nutmeg, cloves and butter back in Tudor times. For a shorter prepare time, a similar delicious cocktail from the version of Harry Potter’s Butterbeer can be mixed with just 4-5 ingredients:

Requirements: butterscotch schnapps, vanilla vodka, cream soda, whipped cream, butterscotch syrup

  • 1 oz. butterscotch schnapps
  • 1.5 oz. vanilla vodka
  • 6 oz. cream soda
  • whipped cream and butterscotch syrup for topping

Add vanilla vodka, butterscotch schnapps and cream soda to a frosted mug. Top with a generous amount of whipped cream and butterscotch syrup drizzled on top of the whipped cream.

Comments: This old-time drink was fictionalized into the Harry Potter novels by J.K. Rowling. There are many non-alcoholic versions of Butterbeer which resemble butterscotch & ice cream fountain shakes and can be found online.
