Rum Swizzle

Bermuda and its native Goslings Rum are at the heart of the delicious and very popular RUM SWIZZLE. One of the most popular stops in Bermuda is the Swizzle Inn, where one is invited to “Swizzle inn, stagger out.” This rum punch swizzles with two kinds of rum, orange liqueur, Falernum liqueur, bitters and two kinds of juice.

Requirements: Goslings Black Seal rum, golden rum (Goslings preferred), orange liqueur, Falernum liqueur, pineapple juice, orange juice, Angostura bitters, lemon juice, Grenadine (optional), orange wheel garnish, pineapple garnish (optional)

3 servings // 1 serving

  • 2 oz. // 2/3 oz. Goslings Black Seal rum
  • 2 oz. // 2/3 oz. golden rum (Goslings Gold Seal rum preferred)
  • 1.5 oz. // .5 oz. Cointreau
  • 1 oz. // .5 oz. Falernum
  • 2.5 oz. // .8 oz. pineapple juice
  • 2.5 oz. // .8 oz. orange juice
  • 3 dashes // 1 dash Angostura bitters
  • juice of 1 lemon // juice of 1/3 lemon
  • 1/2 oz Grenadine // 1/3 oz. Grenadine (optional)
  • 3 // 1 orange wheel (and/or pineapple wedge) garnish

Shake all liquid ingredients in an ice-filled shaker and strain over a glass half filled with ice. Garnish with an orange wheel and/or a pineapple wedge.

Comments: Since the Rum Swizzle has an entire baseball lineup of ingredients, usually more than one serving is made at a time. The actual local recipe is hard to replicate and is a closely-guarded template. The Goslings publish the recipe one way and the Swizzle Inn another. The mix above is close enough for me, though there is room for experimentation.
