Absinthe Martini

The ABSINTHE MARTINI takes the classic gin martini and adds a touch of Absinthe, making it anise-fresh, icy-smooth and boozy. While strong, it goes down like a light digestive. The licorice flavor adds balance to the botanicals of gin.

Requirements: dry gin, dry vermouth, absinthe, green olive (preferably stuffed with onion) for garnish

  • 2.5 oz. dry gin
  • 1/2 oz. dry vermouth
  • 1/6 oz. (1 teaspoon) absinthe
  • 1 green olive for garnish

Stir ingredients in an ice-filled glass to chill. Strain into a chilled martini or coup glass. Add a green olive for garnish.

Comments: Some prefer to lessen the absinthe by swirling it in the chilled martini glass beforehand and pouring out the excess. Regardless, the presence of absinthe freshens the flavor and feels like a digestive cleansing*, either before or after a heavy meal.

*The “cleansing” effect is likely from the dry gin, its absinthe edge, and lack of any added sugar, syrup or juices to the mix. Your gastroenterologist would instead probably recommend probiotics for intestinal cleansing; but an Absinthe Martini is more fun.
