Cadillac Margarita
The idea of the CADILLAC MARGARITA is to upgrade the margarita to more upper-shelf ingredients. Most margaritas use silver tequila, aged at 0-2 months and sometimes considered harsh. The Cadillac Margarita uses Reposado tequila (gold) which is aged between 2-12 months in oak barrels, is made from one hundred percent agave, and is usually smoother. It mixes with the usual fresh lime juice but adds Grand Marnier, a blend of cognac and bitter orange-flavored liqueur.
Requirements: Gold tequila Reposado, Grand Marnier, Cointreau, fresh lime juice, agave syrup (optional), lime wedge or wheel garnish
- 1.5 oz. gold tequila (Reposado)
- 1 oz. Grand Marnier
- 1 oz. fresh lime juice
- 1 oz. Cointreau
- .5 oz. agave syrup (optional)
Dampen the rim of a cocktail glass with lime juice and press onto salt. Combine all but the Grand Marnier in an ice-filled shaker. Shake vigorously and strain over ice in the salt-rimmed cocktail glass. Gently add a 1 oz.floater of Grand Marnier over the drink*. Serve with a lime wedge or wheel.
Comments: The Cointreau/agave syrup combinations can be adjusted to suit personal taste. I prefer using Cointreau as above with just a splash of agave syrup; others prefer using 1/2 ounce of agave syrup with 1/2 ounce Cointreau, or with no Cointreau at all.
