Aperol Spritz
The APEROL SPRITZ became well known as an aperitif refresher with origins from Italy. Aperol is the Campari-owned liqueur bitter with rhubarb, gentian root (found in Angostura bitters), cinchona bark, citrus oil from oranges and has a zesty orange hue & flavor. It’s mixed with the inexpensive Prosecco sparkling wine in a ratio of three parts Prosecco to two parts Aperol. A splash of club soda is added to help balance the sweet/bitter overtones.
- 3 oz. Prosecco
- 2 oz. Aperol
- 1 oz. club soda
Add the Prosecco, Aperol and club soda to an ice-filled wine glass and stir. Garnish with an orange slice.
Comments: This is light on alcohol and bitter-sweet. Aperol is similar to Campari, but is sometimes described as milder with more orange flavor. Traditionally, the Aperol Spritz is served before meals as an appetite stimulant. With the three ingredients handy, it’s as easy as 1-2-3 to prepare, or rather, 3-2-1.
