About Me

I’m Keeton, your mixology source at Keet’s Cocktails. I’ve enjoyed mixing and serving cocktails to friends, family and groups for 25+ years. Though I learned a little about the cocktail world in my youth while waitering in restaurants, living in New York City eventually influenced me the most with its wonderful cocktail offerings and great bartenders. Somewhere along the line I began to make them myself. With a fresh approach, my cocktail-making has received accolades consistently and enthusiastically. Many have suggested that I create a website or blog with my recipes long before I thought of it. So, here it goes.

Probably not being a bartender has allowed me some freedom to make delicious and distinctive drinks. They aren’t overly sweet, never medicinal-tasting, sometimes unorthodox in preparation, always icy cold. Balance is important, and I’m picky. Many books and online services provide varying recipes for drinks, and I do reference them. I also talk to bartenders and ask them how they make a particularly good drink. Often my versions are simpler, less sweet, or maybe contain an added something that gives it that smoothness that people like. But my recipes are always more practical to prepare at a home bar, containing liquors that are usually common among many drinks. For the most part, I don’t use any obscure or pricey liquors. Making good cocktails is great; spending unnecessary money to do so is not. This website tries to keep the home bartender in mind at all times.

I test old & new drink recipes myself and on others who might be around. Before I post a recipe, I have to like it myself, or envision others liking it even if I don’t. The bad ones usually are evident immediately. Much has gone down the drain in an effort to weed out bad combinations.

This site is built to be helpful, user-friendly and fun. It would be great to see more people serving up their own cocktails at homes and events and not opting for automatic drink-mixers created for the home or for cocktail delivery services. Greeting friends or guests with “What can I make for you to drink?” is a nice start for any get-together.

On a larger scale, I enjoy histories of the spirits industry. World economies and laws have been driven by the liquor industry. Marriage proposals, business deals, political negotiations, problem-solving, sports wins, life-changing creative ideas and stories have passed through the generations over a glass of it. And they’re our stories. Like music, liquor is a common language across countries and cultures. So here’s to us as we touch down amidst our busy lives to enjoy our favorite cocktails together, safely.
