Frenchie
The FRENCHIE is a wonderful three-ingredient cocktail for fans of grapefruit juice. A classic London dry gin is a good match with the grapefruit juice and elderflower liqueur. It’s an easy party cocktail to prepare, or probably even better for breakfast and brunch.
Requirements: London dry gin, elderflower liqueur (St-Germain preferred), fresh grapefruit juice, grapefruit wedge for garnish
- 2 oz. gin
- 1/2 oz. elderflower liqueur
- 2.5 oz. fresh grapefruit juice
- 1 grapefruit wedge for garnish
- 1-2 dashes of grapefruit bitters (optional)
Mix ingredients in an ice-filled shaker. Shake to chill and strain into a highball glass filled with ice. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge.
History: This recipe is reportedly from Los Angeles bartender Somer Perez. It’s unknown why it was named a Frenchie except possibly because St-Germain elderflower liqueur is made in France.
Comments: This is a refreshing and more layered mix than the vodka/orange-juice Screwdriver. For a touch more pungent complexity, a dash or two of grapefruit bitters can be added. Adding some lime juice, the drink becomes a Part & Parcel cocktail.
