Gin Daisy

The GIN DAISY has two versions: an old-school and a new-school. I favor the old-school recipe, which sweetens lemon juice with orange liqueur, maintaining the classic lemony “Sour” profile. It’s refreshing, light, balanced, and an excellent precursor to dinner.
Requirements: gin, orange liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec), lemon juice, seltzer, lime (or lemon) wheel for garnish
- 1.5 oz. gin
- 3/4 oz. orange liqueur
- 3/4 oz. lemon juice
- Soda water (seltzer) topper (approx. 1 oz.)
- 1 lime (or lemon) wheel for garnish
Add all ingredients except seltzer to an ice-filled shaker. Shake to chill and strain into an ice-filled Collins glass. Top with seltzer and garnish with a lime (preferred) or lemon wheel.
Comments: The new-school version substitutes orange liqueur with grenadine: 1.5 oz. gin, 1/4 oz. grenadine, 1/2 oz. lemon juice, 1/4 oz. simple syrup, topped with soda water after shaking and pouring into an ice-filled Collins glass. Garnish with an orange peel. If ordering a Gin Daisy at a bar or restaurant, specify which version you prefer.
