International
The INTERNATIONAL successfully combines a mesh of flavors that make this cognac cocktail smooth and special. Anisette is a key agent in the mix, which when downplayed (as in the recipe below) can elevate the others without dominating. The cognac or brandy flavor will prevail, but blends nicely into the mix.
Requirements: cognac or brandy, vodka, Cointreau, anisette
- 2 oz. cognac or brandy
- 1/2 oz. vodka
- 1/4 oz. Cointreau
- 1/4 oz. anisette
Combine all ingredients in an ice-filled shaker. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
Comments: Some recipes of the International Cocktail call for as much as one ounce anisette and Cointreau each. If you prefer that the sweet licorice flavor of anisette prevail as in an after-dinner drink, then proceed with the additional proportions of liqueur. Otherwise, as a stand-alone brandy cocktail, I recommend the proportions above.
