Highlander

The HIGHLANDER is a flavorful whisky cocktail similar to the Rob Roy, with many variations. My preferred recipe is adapted from the Campbell bar in NYC. It’s the easiest to make, transitioning a Rob Roy from cherry overtones to orange. It features an old-world peat flavor that will have you imagining scenes from Braveheart and Outlander.
Requirements: Blended Scotch Whisky, Sweet Vermouth, Orange Bitters, Orange twist
- 3 oz. (2 jiggers) blended scotch whisky
- 1.5 oz. (1 jigger) sweet vermouth
- 3 dashes orange bitters
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Combine all liquid ingredients and stir for 30-60 seconds to chill. (The other option is to shake, as shown in the video tutorial below, but this will yield a less smooth, more frothy drink.) Rim a cocktail glass with an orange peel and drop the remaining peel into the glass. Strain the mixture into the glass and serve.
Comments: A blended scotch like Dewar’s works well in this mix. For an extra special Highlander, consider using a single malt scotch.
