Rum Punch

The RUM PUNCH can easily be too sweet, or it can be perfectly balanced and refreshing. This particular mix is one I consider excellent, striking a balance between fruity refreshment and robust rum strength. Learned from a Cape Cod bartender, the key to this special recipe is the dark rum floater — Myers’s dark. The Rum Punch is one of my summer favorites.
Requirements: Light rum (Bacardi preferred), dark rum (Myers’s preferred), orange & pineapple juice, lime juice, grenadine.
- 1.5 oz. light rum
- .75 oz. dark rum
- .75 oz. orange juice
- .75 oz. pineapple juice
- .75 oz. grenadine
- 1/2 lime, fresh juice
Combine all ingredients except dark rum into an ice-filled glass and shake to chill. Strain into a hurricane or rocks glass filled halfway with ice. Add the dark rum floater gently to the top of the drink. Garnish is optional with either a pineapple or lime wedge. (See tutorial below.)
Comments: This is a great drink to serve for two or more people and can be easily scaled. The above proportions are for one serving, with each serving receiving its own dark rum floater. As always, make sure it’s served icy cold.
