Lagerita
For some reason, beer & margarita go together well, side by side. So, it’s no surprise that the LAGERITA combines both into one single drink. It’s delicious and refreshing, and perfect to celebrate Cinco de Mayo or to refresh on any warm beach day during the summer.
Requirements: tequila (silver preferred), Cointreau, fresh lime juice, Mexican lager (Modelo Especial preferred), salt (optional), lime wheel garnish (optional)
- 2 oz. tequila
- 3/4 oz. Cointreau
- 1 oz. fresh lime juice
- 4 oz. Mexican lager
- 1 lime wheel garnish
- salt to rim (optional)
If a salt rim is desired, rub the wet opened lime onto the top of a beer or hurricane glass, turn upside down and rub onto a salt-covered plate. Add the tequila, Cointreau & lime juice to a shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into the prepared glass. Top with beer. Garnish with a lime wheel (optional) and serve.
History: The Lagerita is reportedly from bartender and distiller Simon Ford, who created Ford’s Gin.
Comments: Modelo Especial works well in this mix; but other Mexican beers like Tecate (used in this photo), Pacifico or Corona Extra may be substituted. The orange liqueur recommended is Cointreau; but either Combier or a good dry orange curacao from Pierre Ferrand with a little simple syrup would work nicely too.
