Caneflower Cocktail
Those who know cachaca associate it largely with the popular Brazilian caipirinha. If you’re a fan of the lime-flavored Caipirinha like me, you might have a bottle of cachaca at home; if you don’t, you might want to get one. Try the CANEFLOWER cocktail. It’s an alternative cachaca drink that’s semi-sweet with flavors of elderflower, bitter orange and in my recipe, lime.
Requirements: Cachaca (Novo Fogo Silver/ Boca Loca Cachaca preferred), St-Germain Elderflower liqueur, Aperol, orange twist, lime wedge (optional)
- 1.5 oz. (45 ml) cachaca
- 3/4 oz. (22.5 ml) Aperol
- 1/2 oz. (15 ml) elderflower liqueur
- 1 orange twist for garnish; or 1 lime wedge for garnish & flavoring
Combine all ingredients in an ice-filled mixing glass. Stir until chilled and strain into a small chilled cocktail coupe. Garnish with an orange twist or lime wedge.
Comments: The orange twist garnish is visually correct; but lime is flavor-correct, and adds balance if a lime wedge is squeezed into the drink.
History: The Caneflower was created in 2009 by Oregon’s famous barman, mixologist and writer, Jeffrey Morgenthaler.
