Yellow Daisy

The YELLOW DAISY is a gin martini with sweetness and herbal support from Grand Marnier and absinthe. The equal parts gin and dry vermouth are balanced for a very smooth drink experience with just one-half part Grand Marnier and a dash or three of absinthe (or Pernod), as outlined in Harry Craddock’s 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book.
Requirements: dry gin, dry vermouth, Grand Marnier, and absinthe (or Pernod)
- 1.3 oz. (40 ml.) dry gin
- 1.3 oz. (40 ml.) dry vermouth
- 2/3 oz. (30 ml.) Grand Marnier
- 1-3 dashes absinthe (or Pernod)
Add all ingredients to an ice-filled shaker. Shake vigorously and strain into a chilled coup or cocktail glass.
History: Craddock comments in his Savoy Cocktail Book that this was a favorite drink of, and probably created by, Richard William (“Deadwood Dick”) Clark. Clark was a onetime Custer scout, Pony Express rider and friend of wild westerners including Wild Bill Hickok, Buffalo Bill, Calamity Jane and others. Clark was the inspiration for Deadwood Dick novels of E.L. Wheeler.
