Apple Cider Margarita

A fall variation of the ever-popular margarita is the APPLE CIDER MARGARITA. This delicious recipe captures our autumn appreciation for cider, enhanced by the flavors of cinnamon, tequila, and lemon juice.

Requirements: silver tequila, apple cider, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, salt, cinnamon sticks, apple slice

  • 6 oz. apple cider
  • 2 oz. tequila
  • 1 oz. lemon juice
  • Sugar, cinnamon and salt for the rim
  • Apple slice and/or cinnamon sticks for garnish

Rim a margarita glass or rocks Old-Fashioned glass with lemon juice or water. Mix equal parts cinnamon, sugar, and salt together and pour onto a suitable plate or surface. Rub the wet rim of the glass into the salt-sugar-cinnamon mixture to create a crusty rim. Add the cider, tequila and lemon juice to an ice-filled shaker. Shake to chill and strain into the prepared ice-filled glass. Garnish with 1-2 cinnamon sticks and/or an apple slice.

Comments:The proportions above yield one large serving, particularly if using the full 6 oz. of apple cider. This is one of the simplest recipes for the Apple Cider Margarita (courtesy of Delish.com). Using reposado tequila instead of blanco will create a smoother result with a caramel-like flavor. Another popular variation substitutes lime for lemon, adds 1 oz. of orange liqueur, and reduces the amount of apple cider, resulting in a regular margarita with a splash of apple cider. Either way, the glass rim and garnishes remain consistent.
