Apple Cider Margarita

A fall variation of the ever-popular margarita is the APPLE CIDER MARGARITA. This delicious recipe indulges our autumn appreciation of cider with the accompaniment of cinnamon, tequila and lemon juice.

Requirements: silver tequila, apple cider, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon, salt, cinnamon sticks, apple slice

  • 6 oz. apple cider
  • 2 oz. tequila
  • 1 oz. lemon juice
  • sugar, cinnamon, salt for rim
  • apple slice &/or cinnamon sticks for garnish

Rim margarita glass or rocks Old-Fashioned glass with lemon juice or water. Mix equal parts cinnamon, sugar and salt together and pour onto a suitable plate or surface. Rub the wet top of glass onto the salt-sugar-cinnamon combo to form a crusty rim. Add cider, tequila and lemon juice to an ice-filled shaker. Shake to chill and strain into the prepared ice-filled glass. Garnish with 1-2 cinnamon sticks and/or an apple slice.

Comments: The proportions above produce one large serving, especially if using a full 6 oz. of apple cider. This is the simplest of many recipes for the Apple Cider Margarita (courtesy Delish.com). Using a reposado tequila instead of blanco will produce an even more smooth result with reportedly a caramel-like flavor. Another common recipe replaces lemon with lime, adds 1 oz. orange liqueur, and reduces the apple cider — which is really just a regular margarita with some apple cider added. Either way, the glass rim and garnishes are much the same.
