Pomegranate Martini
The POMEGRANATE MARTINI is similar to a Cosmo, but more complex and probably stronger while still going down easy. It’s been popular with most who try this mix. Basically, the sweetness of pomegranate, orange liquor and citron vodka are stretched out by adding regular vodka (very unorthodox) and fresh lime juice for tartness. Yes, pomegranate juice has its share of sugar, but it’s also rich in fiber, vitamins, minerals and bio-active plant compounds that I convince myself has to count for something. The pomegranate martini might be a step or two more in the making than a Cosmo, but in my opinion, has more interesting layers. By strength alone, it deserves the “martini” label.
Requirements: Vodka, Citron Vodka, Cointreau, pomegranate juice, green olives, pomegranate seeds (optional) and fresh lime juice.
- 1.5 oz. vodka
- 1.5 oz. citron vodka
- 1 oz. pomegranate juice
- 3/4 oz (plus a few drops) Cointreau
- 1/2 – 3/4 oz. lime juice
- Garnish: 3 green pimento cocktail olives or slice of lime.
Pour all liquid ingredients into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds. Strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with 2-3 green pimento cocktail olives or a lime wheel. If available, drop in 3 pomegranate seeds for garnish. (Ssee video demo above).
Comments: The quantities listed above have been reduced above from the earlier quantities detailed on the video. The video’s listing provides the proportions for 1 & 1/2 servings each, probably because everyone who originally tried it wanted more than just one glass.
