White Russian

The WHITE RUSSIAN had a resurgence in popularity from the 1998 movie The Big Lebowski in which Jeff Bridges’ character, the Dude, drinks a White Russian throughout. This delicious and decadent rocks drink is about as easy to prepare as a cocktail gets (see video demo below). Its only three ingredients are vodka, Kahlua and cream. It’s perfect for the holidays, especially on a cold, winter night.

• 2 oz. vodka
• 1 oz. Kahlua
• 1 oz. cream

Add vodka and Kahlua to an ice-filled glass. Top it with cream and stir gently to get the swirl effect.

Comments: Like the Moscow Mule, the White Russian has the Russian reference in name because vodka was originally only imported to the U.S. from Russia. The White Russian has reportedly fallen off the International Bartender’s Association listing of official cocktails, while the Black Russian (a White Russian without the cream) hasn’t. You can’t convince The Dude or anyone else though that it really matters one way or another.
