Paddy Wagon

When transported across the Irish Sea from Scotland to Ireland, the Rob Roy magically transforms into a PADDY WAGON (a.k.a., Paddy Cocktail). Instead of the Rob Roy’s scotch & vermouth combo, Irish whiskey & vermouth make the Paddy Wagon. Taste-wise, the likely triple-distilled light & versatile characteristics of Irish whiskey replaces the smoky earthy flavors of Scotch whisky.
Requirements: Irish whiskey, sweet vermouth, Angostura bitters, maraschino cherry
- 2 oz. Irish whiskey
- 3/4 oz. sweet vermouth
- 2-4 dashes Angostura bitters
- 1 maraschino cherry
Combine ingredients into an ice-filled mixing glass. Stir at least 20 seconds until well chilled and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
Comments: The whiskey-to-vermouth ratio can vary to suit your own taste. To emphasize your whiskey, go as high as 2.5 oz. whiskey in the recipe above. A slightly sweeter version of the recipe above might raise the vermouth to 1 oz. or 1.5 oz..while lowering the whiskey to 1.5 oz.
Irish whiskey offers some tasty, smooth choices in the Paddy Wagon. Some of the recommended Irish whiskies are Jameson, Redbreast, Bushmills Original, Sexton Single Malt, Teeling, Tullamore D.E.W. and Drumshanbo Single Pot Still.
