Gibson

The GIBSON is a classic martini, typically made with gin and garnished with a pickled cocktail onion instead of an olive or lemon twist. It’s an unusual gin martini because it doesn’t use bitters like others do. The cocktail onion adds a deeper flavor that complements the botanical notes of gin. Vodka can also be used instead of gin, and its milder nature allows the vermouth and pickled onion flavors to shine through.
Requirements: gin (or vodka), dry vermouth, pickled cocktail onion for garnish
- 2.5 oz. gin (or vodka)
- 1 oz. dry vermouth
- 1 cocktail onion for garnish
Add gin (or vodka) and dry vermouth to an ice-filled mixing glass and stir until well chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a cocktail onion.
Comments:Fresh pickled onions can be made at home by soaking cocktail onions in vinegar, sugar, and pickling spices. Many cocktail bars and restaurants prepare them to make their drinks especially fresh and flavorful. History:The Gibson is believed to have originated from a San Francisco bar in the late 1800s. It appeared in a 1908 book titled The World’s Drinks and How To Mix Them, by William Boothby.
