Dubliner
Whether it’s St. Patrick’s Day or just any old Irish-whiskey kind of day, the DUBLINER is a top-notch Manhattan-style cocktail using Irish whiskey. It’s midway between dry and sweet, slightly orange-flavored due to the addition of Grand Marnier and smooth as silk.
Requirements: Irish whiskey, Grand Marnier, sweet vermouth, orange bitters. maraschino cherry
- 2 oz. Irish whiskey
- 1/2 oz. Grand Marnier
- 1/2 oz. sweet vermouth
- 3 dashes orange bitters
- 1 maraschino cherry (green maraschino cherry for St.Patrick’s Day)
Add ingredients into an ice-filled mixing glass and stir until well chilled. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with a maraschino cherry.
Comments: This mix was created by Gary Regan (of Gary Regan’s Orange Bitters fame) in New York, 1999. Though he preferred spending his St.Patrick’s Day at Irish Pubs with a good whiskey, a pint of beer and friends, his Dubliner mix was created by Gary and his wife specifically for St.Patrick’s Day. As Manhattan variations go, one wonders why it took so long to come to the table.
Twon’t be no begrudgery felt whilst a glass of Dubliner be raised. Sláinte (“Slawn-cha”)!
